AURIGA - As human rights workers, environmental defenders are not infrequently subjected to violence and torture; often resulting in death. Criminalization is a method frequently used by state authorities and other actors. Therefore, strategic steps are necessary to ensure the safety and security of environmental defenders when carrying out their work in defending the environment.
