CAPACITY BUILDING OF SOUTHERN PAPUA JOURNALISTS & CSOs: PROTECTING AND RESTORING PEATLAND

AURIGA - Merauke, 4 December 2019  — Located at Swiss-Belhotel Merauke, Auriga is working with the Peatland Restoration Agency (BRG) and Kemitraan (Partnership) to hold training for journalists and civil society activists on peat protection and restoration issues.

The activity was held on 4-6 and attended by 13 journalists from various media –printed, television and online media– coming from Merauke and its surroundings. Material on protection and restoration of peat was delivered by Markus Ratriyono (Peatland Restoration Agency), while journalistic material and coverage were delivered by Sandy Indra Pratama (lecturer at Multimedia Nusantara University).

Through this training, it was expected that the amount of media coverage in Merauke and surrounding areas on the protection and restoration will increase. Auriga and the local civil society network will conduct field monitoring following this training. A series of media coverage activities, both local and national is going to be held in the future.
