FGD: Indexing the governance and business conduct of mining practices in Indonesia

December 17, 2020 – Responsible Mining Index (RMI) is an instrument that adhere to principle that minerals and metals mining should benefit the economies, improve people’s livelihood, and respect the environment of producing countries; while also allowing mining companies gaining profits in a fair and viable way.

This instrument was initiated by Responsible Mining Foundation, a Switzerland-based independent research organization advocating for a more responsible mining practices through assessment instrument. Currently, Auriga Nusantara is adopting RMI and is conducting assessment on Indonesian mining corporations.

As a starting point, Auriga Nusantara held a virtual focus group discussion on Thursday, December 17, 2020. The main goal of the event was to disseminating what is and how RMI works, as well as obtaining inputs from stakeholders including the government, mining companies represented by mining association, and civil society organizations that work on extractive industry issues.
